Business Goal Setting for 2017

Goal Setting…Ugh I dread it too…mainly because every time I do it I get to my goal date and I realize I’ve skipped a few steps, fallen short, or I flat out gave up after the first day.

This is 2017 people…no time for slacking. We live in an extremely competitive world and as a business owner you know all too well how important staying ahead of the pact is.

Start your year off by setting some attainable goals and use the following tips to help you stay on track.

Don’t set Goals Just to have them - Set Goals that Motivate You

Think of things that are the most important in your life and set your goals around them. With this kind of focus you can streamline your goals and devote time to the most important things in your life. To achieve your goals you need to be committed and to maximize your likelihood of success a sense of importance helps. Motivation is key to achieving goals.

If you are a business owner it could even be something like, ‘I will pay myself enough over the next three years to afford sending my son/daughter to private school.”

If this is something that is important to you, you are more likely to build your smaller day to day tasks around making this happen.

Don’t just speak it –Write it into Existence

The act of writing something down just to ‘make it happen’ may seem silly but, it’s good for many reasons. Most importantly, you have no excuse for ‘forgetting it.’ Be sure to place it somewhere that you will see it every day, this will help to keep you motivated.
Make an Action Plan

Most people skip this step because it’s more work and they get so focused on the outcome that you forget to plan all of the steps that are needed along the way. By writing out the individual steps, and then crossing each one off as you complete it, you'll realize that you are making progress towards your ultimate goal. This is especially important if your goal is big and demanding, or long-term.

Stick With It!

Don’t forget, goal setting and goal achieving is a continuous thing. Make time to make your goals attainable or even ask a friend or co-worker to check in and ensure you are on top of things. Make sure the relevance, value, and necessity remain high.

No matter what your goals are, remember you set them because you want them, deserve them or even NEED them to happen. Don’t give up on yourself even if you fall behind.
